Summary

This evening I presented at HDNUG on "How the Technology Services Group builds and deploys its SOA applications using Visual Studio 2008 and the dotNet Framework 3.5". The evening was well attended and it was excellent to see some new faces at the event, after a couple of quieter months it was also brilliant to see 30 attendees.

I'm always been interested in how other organisations use technologies to build and deploy their own applications, assuming that other people have similar ponderings I put this presentation together as a quick overview of how we combine the more recent additions in .Net 3.5 to build real world applications.

One of the major challenges we face within the Federal Group is a distributed user base where many users are on with very low bandwidth connections back to our main data centre in Hobart. Service Orientated Architecture has been a key player in allowing us to deploy rich thick client applications to these users in remote areas whilst also satisfying our higher bandwidth users.
